Wedding Toasts - How to Prepare

Giving a toast or speech can be extremely daunting in the best of times. Some people find them very stressful and especially if you're the bride or groom nerves could be at an all time high. When giving a wedding toast there are also some formalities that each person giving the toast should adhere to. Here are some ideas to help write the perfect wedding toast or speech.

The Father of the Bride speech would traditionally thank the guests for coming including interstate and overseas guest. It would involve welcoming the groom and the groom's family into their family. The father of the bride may make mention of gaining a son and how proud he is of his daughter. The intention of the father of the bride's speech is praise their daughter. The toast may include inspirational words of wisdom about marriage and patience. It many include also humorous anecdotes about marriage to lighten the mood. The father of the bride usually ends the speech with comments about the wedding so far. How great the day has been. How beautiful the bride looks. He also extends a further offer to the guests to enjoy the rest of the night including the food and drinks. Finally he concludes with a toast to the bride and groom.

The Father of the Groom speech would be very similar to that of the father of the bride. The father of groom speech is taken from the groom's family perspective. Similarly to the best mans speech the father of the groom may feel it necessary to share some humorous stories of his son. He would end the speech saying how proud he is of his son and his choice of life partner.

The Best Man's man speech could cover many things. Some of the duties that the best man would take on during the speech making are to read any well wishes from overseas. The best man should make comment on how lovely the bride and the bridesmaid's look. Then the speech should proceed into its intended purpose which is to embarrass the groom. The best man's toast or speech could contain a humorous story about the groom and their friendship and childhood experiences. The best man may tell the story of how the bride and groom met and fell in love. Humorous first meetings or first date incidents are always great to share. To wrap it up the best man should thank the groom for the honour of being the best man and to say something of how much their friendship means. Traditionally the best man would ask the all the guests to be up standing and raise their glasses to make a toast to the bride and groom, their love, new life together and so forth.

The Groom s speech traditionally covers the following points which would be to thank everyone for attending the wedding. They would also thank their family for their support and then go on to thanking the bride's family. They would continue to thank the bridal party and any persons specifically responsible for helping during the wedding preparations. Finally they would address the bride with some anecdote or a romantic sentiment about their love and future life together.

The Maid of honor may also make a speech about her friendship with the bride. It may also include more sentimental and romantic stories of the bride and groom and their love for one another. A speech made by the maid of honour would follow similar lines as that made by the best man except it would focus on her relationship with the bride. Finally the speech would be wrapped up with sentiments of how happy she is that the bride and groom have found each other.

The bride's speech would include thanking all that assisted her with putting together the wedding. She would also thank her parents and the groom parents for their support and assistance. The bride may then wrap things up by giving a romantic address to her husband.

Not all mentioned above need to make a speech on the day. Although you may choose to have more speech makers, it is traditional to have a select few. Speeches can be exciting but can also distract from the celebrations. Some well written, meaningful heartfelt words are usually best. To make sure you overcome any nerves on the day and so to not forget anyone during the important speeches, make sure you have notes (speaker cards) and prepare in advance.
